Whistler Institute Announces Thought Provoking Line Up for 2024-2025 Global Perspectives Speaker Series 

 

Whistler, BC – The Whistler Institute is proud to unveil its line up for the 2024-2025 Global Perspectives Speaker Series. This dynamic series, renowned for bringing together globally recognized thought leaders, promises to deliver an unparalleled array of insights on global issues, innovative solutions, and future trends.

Kicking off September 19, the Speaker Series will feature a diverse line up of distinguished speakers from various fields including the military, climate science, international politics, viticulture, technology, and psychology. Each event is designed to foster dialogue and inspire action on pressing global challenges.

Highlights of the 2024-2025 Speaker Series Include:

  • Lealand Muller – Corporal Retired, Muller will kick off the season on September 19, 2024, when he shares his journey to the Invictus Games and the integral role the experience played for him in overcoming trauma. His insights will bring awareness to persons with disabilities and accessibility requirements, and highlight the benefit of sport for those facing mental and physical limitations.
  • Decoa Harder – co-founder of Ex Nihilo Winery and active strategist for the Okanagan wine industry, Harder will compassionately present the challenges and realities facing our province’s wine industry. Her talk, scheduled for November 7, 2024, will delve into the latest innovations in combating climate change and building adaptive strategies for wine crops.
  • Kris Krüg – AI Expert, Photographer, Artist and the Founder & CEO of Future Proof Creatives, Krüg will take the audience on a journey through the evolution of artificial intelligence and its profound implications for creativity and innovation on January 23, 2025. His presentation will provide a forward-looking perspective on how artificial intelligence can be harnessed for positive societal impact while addressing potential risks and challenges.
  • Dr. Kennedy Stewart – Associate Professor at Simon Fraser University’s School of Public Policy, Dr. Stewart will lead the audience on an exploration of democracy and science’s symbiotic relationship on March 27, 2025. Drawing from his time in political office and teaching, this talk will offer a deep dive into the role respectful disagreement plays in democracy and science.

 

“This line up was curated by our working committee, and we are excited to bring such an impressive roster of global experts to Whistler,” said Mandy Rousseau, Executive Director of the Whistler Institute. “The 2024-2025 Speaker Series reflects our dedication to addressing critical global issues through diverse perspectives and fostering meaningful dialogue to inspire personal action.”

Each event will be held at the Maury Young Arts Centre and will include an audience question and answer period, providing attendees with the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers. Doors and cash bar open at 5.30pm, with talks starting at 6pm.
