The Whistler Institute successfully secures funding from the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation and the Resort Municipality of Whistler

July 5th, 2023 (Whistler, BC) – The Whistler Institute would like to express its gratitude to the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation and the Resort Municipality of Whistler. Their generous grants will allow the Whistler Institute to bring early childhood education (ECE) certification training to Whistler to benefit the Sea to Sky Corridor.

The Whistler Blackcomb Foundation has been providing support to non–profit organizations who benefit the residents of the Sea to Sky Corridor since 1991. With a focus on supporting initiatives around health, human services, education, recreation, arts, culture and the environment, as well as an emphasis on children, youth, and family programs. The Resort Municipality of Whistler’s Community Enrichment Program offers financial support to not-for-profit organizations who provide benefits to the Whistler community relating to the environment, social services, community services, recreation and sport, or arts and culture. “Being amongst the recipients of the 2023 Spring Funding is exciting and will enable us to pursue new partnerships and support outreach for an Early Childhood Certification program in the Sea to Sky Corridor” said Suki Cheyne, Executive Director.

The funds provided to the Whistler Institute will be utilized to conduct community and stakeholder engagement and outreach required to prepare and submit the detailed application required for a 100% subsidized Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Program via the Project Based Labour Market Training program. The course will be facilitated by Sprott Shaw College and successful graduates will be able to pursue employment in local child care centers allowing for the creation of additional child care spaces.

The Whistler Institute is focused on identifying regional learning needs and developing and facilitating creative educational offerings to address them.
