Description:
Join Brian and Quinn Storey for an intimate sharing of the lessons and theory behind raising healthy, resilient, and respectful humans in performance sport environments. The father son duo will keep things spicy and honest by interviewing each other with some tough questions that will resonate with parents. They will touch on the roles of attachment, identity construction, development stages, and health/unhealthy social dynamics in sport.
A former Olympian, Brian focused his career on education and brings a social psychology and father’s lens to the discussion. Quinn, a 2023 Pan Am Games athlete in rowing and an elite junior cyclist brings a family systems and son’s lens to the discussion. Brian and Quinn will explore their successes and challenges in navigating elite sport as a young father and son, striking a balance between personal development, academic pursuits, and athletic performance. You can also expect to hear their perspectives on a wide range of topics like reconciling sport as a privilege with their personal desires to have elite athlete experiences, gender inequity, and their experiences with intercultural fluency development through sport.

Quinn Storey is an MSc student in the clinical psychology program at the University of Victoria. Quinn hopes to grow our understanding of the ways in which men experience depression, masculinity, and mental health stigmatization as well as the influence these experiences carry on intimate relationships, family systems, and all forms of family violence. Quinn was an elite junior cyclist in road, track and cyclocross. After a number of hard crashes and a 6’5” growth spurt, he switched to rowing in the first year of his undergrad at the University of British Columbia. With UBC he won three national championships, served as team captain, and represented Canada at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.
