After 23 years at Whistler Blackcomb, Doug Forseth recently retired as Vice President of Government Relations & Special Projects.  In this position for 6 years, he was responsible for long term planning such as the development of the Whistler Blackcomb master plan, as well as coordinating with local and provincial government agencies.  Doug previously held the position of Senior Vice President, Operations in which he led the divisions of Mountain Operations, Maintenance, Food & Beverage, Human Resources, Snow School, Finance, Guest Services and Environmental Resource Management.  Doug has also been head of many of the resort’s major projects including the construction of the world record breaking PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola and acting as Whistler Blackcomb’s chief liaison with VANOC throughout the planning and execution of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Doug began his career in the hospitality industry serving 24 years with Hyatt Hotels Corporation.  The majority of this time he held the position of General Manager for hotels in several major US cities, as well as in Vancouver, BC.  In 1994, Doug was selected as President of Whistler Mountain Ski Corporation, and in 1997, he assisted in orchestrating the merger of Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains.

Doug is an active member of community groups in the Sea to Sky Corridor.  He serves as a board member for the Whistler Learning Centre and the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation.  In 2004, Doug was named “Business Person of the Year” by the Whistler Chamber of Commerce.   In 2009 he was honoured with the Marshall Award from Canada West Ski Areas Association, their highest honour given for contributions to the ski industry.  Last year (2017) he was awarded the Colin S. Chedore Lifetime Achievement Award by the Canadian Ski Council. This award recognizes hard work, commitment and dedication to the Canadian ski and snowboard industry.
